Most people think that Original Sin was a fruit. It was actually the juicy sweetness of that fruit that led to the true Sin.
Adam and Eve lay wrapped together beneath the Tree that Father had expressly forbid them from. They had barely realized what was happening before their passion had overcome them and they had taken part in what would soon become a reckless action in which many would indulge themselves with.
Eve moaned as Adam touched the small of her back with his finger.
"The Serpent taught you such things?" He asked as he kissed her bare shoulder.
"And more. He says it is the way we are meant to create more of us."
"Is that what Father wants?" Adam asked half-heartedly.
Eve purred. "What do you want?" she whispered and kissed him on his neck.
Inwardly, Adam and Eve knew this to be an empty gesture but desire had long since overcome reason.
A rustle alerted Adam to another's presence.
"It is Father. He has returned from His Kingdom."
"What will we do? He must not see us like this."
"Quickly, into the bushes!" Adam hissed as he pushed her ahead of him.
He felt something which confused him. A feeling that turned his stomach and set his heart pounding.
It was guilt. And fear.
Adam had never felt it before but the fruit from the Tree had stripped away what innocence they had once held.
"My children? Where are you?" The Father called.
'You know exactly where we are and what we've done', Adam thought bitterly. Then he chastised himself. What were these new ideas that pressed forward in his mind?
Guilt-ridden and to Eve's protest, Adam stood and replied, "I am here. I heard you in the Garden and I was afraid because I was naked. So I hid." Adam looked away in shame.
Father spoke, softly "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the Tree that I commanded you to stay away from?"
Before he knew what he was saying, he spoke "The woman. The woman you put here with me-she gave me some of the fruit. And I ate it." Adam hardly heard what he was saying. He only hoped he had said enough to escape punishment.
He could sense the shame Father felt but Adam did not want to share the blame. Father turned to where Eve hesitantly rose from the bushes.
"What is this you have done?" He asked her.
Eve looked at Him and, calming her nerves said "The Serpent decieved me and I ate."
After the Lord had handed out His punishments, (pain for the duration of Eve's child-bearing, a lifetime of work for Adam and a curse upon the grinning Serpent), Adam and Eve stepped out from the Garden. Eve held her belly with one hand where she knew her child was to grow. Adam held a shepherd's crook that Father had crafted for him. They did not speak for miles.
Father summoned Michael, the angel who would one day seize the Dragon and seal him away for a thousand years.
"Set your best Soldier to guard this gate." He commanded.
Michael bowed and replied, "Yes, my Lord."
Before Michael turned to fly off, he chased away a snake that had slithered past his feet.
The Lord looked toward the serpent.
"Of all my Children, yours will be the hardest road to take, Fallen One." There was no sadness. Only Truth.
